Welcome to visit Joasis Greyhounds!

This website is dedicated to my beloved dogs, past and present, and my life with them.

To cut a very long story short, I was born into family where dogs and especially Sighthounds played a big part in everyday life. My mother Katariina Kutilainen bred couple of Saluki litter under her kennel prefix Jailendahls, and we also had an Afghan Hound, Irish Wolfhound and Yorkshire Terrier. The first Greyhound stepped into our house in 1983 when I was eight years old, and life was never the same again! The funny black creature who used to steal my gloves when I came home from school became Champion and foundation to all Greyhounds we have at home today - and 26 years and six litters later, we are still in hook.

Ch Vipinä-Vintti Anuba was bred to Ch Eros in 1988, but only one bitch from this litter was used at stud. Anuba´s next litter was sired by the handsome gentleman Int Ch Jet´s The Sting, and from this litter we kept the most funny, humorous and energetic bitch one can imagine, Fin Ch Jailendahls Nightingale. "Noora" was such a joy that I, who by that time had already two Afghan Hounds of my own and never, ever thought of having a Greyhound (!) went and bought a red bitch puppy, when her sister Ch Jailendahls Navaratna was bred to Int Ch Gulds Dream Dusty in 1993. This girl of course was "Josefina", SBIS winning Fin Ch Hesan Butterfly, who caught a lot of attention during next years. She was a classic and feminine bitch, but unfortunately not a good mover. So mom and I imported a very well moving, strong male from Sweden for her in 1996 - Sobers Zodiac. "Soudi" was sound and proved to be great producer. Alas not with Jossie, who never got any puppies, but we bred Jossie´s half sister Fin Ch Jailendahls Pink And Spoiled (Dusty x Noora) to him in 1999. This litter was stamped with type, quality and good side gait - traits that we have been trying to cherish ever after.

We kept four puppies for ourselves as we could not decide between them; one for me, one for my younger sister and two for our mother. The one, who was to become the most successful of them, went to live with her brother (Fin Ch Jailendahls Red Chili Pepper) and stayed in co-ownership with us - SBIS Fin S Ch Fin LC Ch Jailendahls Raspberry Baret (pictured above). "Miranda" went BIS at the Greyhound Club Specialty in 2001 over an entry of 30 under Mr. Gilberto Grandi, and ended up the year as Greyhound of The Year 2001. Next year she gave us a wonderful litter - the first one born under my own kennel prefix Joasis, which I had applied for already in 1996 - and gained her Lure Coursing title with a nice win over a racing bred Greyhound. I kept Fin Ch Jailendahls Reality Bites for myself, and allthough she was not shown as much as Miranda was, "Karolina" also gained many nice placements, BOS and BOB wins. Mom has always preferred her over Mira, while I have loved the overall balance and soundness of Miranda´s - but it really doesn´t matter, as we could breed from both of them. We probably should have chosen their mates vice versa, but at the time we planned about breeding Miranda "Levi" was just a lanky youngster, and on the other hand "Arska" was getting old.. So Miranda was bred to him and produced two lovely red bitch puppies in 2002. One stayed with Mira´s owner and the other went to France - and created a wonderful career over there. "Tara" in my eyes is the best bitch in whole that has been born in our kennels - and she also had the most adorable, refined character that only finest Greyhound Ladies have. Karolina gave birth to her puppies in 2004, and this time we had a litter where males nearly defeat the girls. It doesn´t happen often in this breed! We made this outcross (if anything can be described as an outcross in show Greyhounds) to improve temperaments and front angulation - what succeeded more than well - but we also got some incredibly good movers! Typewise there is more variation, but all in all we are quite pleased with this litter, too. : D

For us, the whole joy is about sharing our daily lives with these funny creatures. Lazy mornings, long walks, enjoying seeing them run in the forest. Holding a wet, new born puppy and see it grow into handsome dog. Showing isn´t important at all, and the older I become, the less I like it. I used to think that Josefina was shown too seldom - she went to 30 shows during her lifetime. Karolina was shown about 20 times. Now the latest generation has barely been shown at all! "Kofi" has been to 13 shows, two of them in Sweden. "Dido" who is pictured above was shown five times (3xCC) before she moved in Germany.  "Ringa" has been shown three times in junior/intermediate class. My own Pauliina is still waiting for her debut...! Luckily we have puppy buyers that are a lot more active than we´ve been... Here I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for the great work you have done with our babies!
